Hello from the Dehnart family!
We're a home educating family, following Yeshua (aka, Jesus) and joyfully out to bless and encourage others through name meanings and quality gifts. We get into all sorts of adventures as a family, like voiceover projects, little family movies, hand-made bracelets, and designing websites like this one!
Researching names started 20 years ago, when I (John) was 16 at driver’s ed class. In the class of 20 kids, I was the only student who was home educated, and it did not take long for me to become the target of verbal attacks and nasty jokes from several of the other students. With my parents' daily support and inspiration, I decided not to retaliate, but instead, print little cards with their names and name meanings on them. I quickly discovered that obeying Yeshua's command to “Bless your enemies" can really change their attitudes! And it turns out that blessing your enemies can often bring peace to conflict. I believe Abraham Lincoln knew this when his mercy towards the defeated . When an angry his mercy for the defeated Confederate troops was challenged, replied "Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?"
So I began printing dozens of NameCards, then hundreds, then thousands. For years I’d carry a satchel with 800 names/cards in it, and could present a stranger with a personalized gift within a few minutes of meeting them. Eventually, I gave one to a young lady named Katie, who later married me and has helped expand our name gifts to plaques, coffee mugs and music boxes. The business now provides for home educating my own children, who also chip in to help with the hundreds of orders we receive through the websites we've designed.
The process of researching a name is like a mini Bible study with each new name I find. Over the last 20 years, I have collected dozens of resources that reveal the cultural, linguistic or historical meanings of names, and then I search out a Biblical interpretation that encourages and inspires.
